PitchBook Gets Ex-Avante Worker’s Right of Publicity Suit Tossed

Pitchbook Data Inc. convinced a federal court to drop a proposed class action from a former Avante Capital Partners employee asserting claims under the Illinois Right of Publicity Act because he filed the lawsuit too late.

James Hsieh alleged that Pitchbook enticed the public to subscribe to its service through free trials that could have revealed his personal information and that of proposed class members. The company runs a database of financial professionals where users can search for people in the private equity, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions sectors.
