Bluestem Brands Inc. will pay $1 million to settle a class action alleging it made thousands of illegal robocalls under a deal finalized by the Middle District of Florida Aug. 27.
The company, which owns seven online brands including electronics site Fingerhut, allegedly made debt collection calls to 280,000 class members without their consent. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act allows damages of up to $1,500 per unsolicited robocall.
Bluestem will create a $1 million fund to settle the litigation and will separately pay $270,000 to cover the costs of notifying the class of the deal.
