Ninth Circuit Prods Judge Alsup to Defend Class Action Order (1)

Logitech Inc. got the Ninth Circuit’s attention Feb. 13 in its second attempt to get review of a federal judge’s standing order preventing it from settling a consumer class action over computer speakers.

The company asked the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit to overrule Judge William Alsup’s general prohibition on engaging in settlement negotiations in class cases before the parties have conducted discovery and the court has ruled on class certification.

The appeals court stayed the case in the district court until it rules on Logitech’s mandamus petition. It gave Alsup 14 days to address the petition. ...
