Health and wellness retailer Natural Health Trends Corp. was hit with a lawsuit Jan. 8 by shareholders who say the company hid that it was operating an illegal Chinese pyramid scheme.
State television broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) aired an expose on Jan. 5 alleging that Natural Health Trends was operating as a pyramid scheme in violation of Chinese law. The company allegedly made its money by recruiting members, rather than actually selling juices, the lawsuit alleges.
