Model Aircraft Owners’ Class Action Against FAA Grounded

Model airplane enthusiasts lack standing to challenge a Federal Aviation Administration rule requiring them to register their aircraft, a federal court ruled Nov. 26.

“Here, to some degree, plaintiff has brought harm upon himself,” Judge Amit P. Mehta wrote for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Plaintiff Robert Taylor had the chance to request a refund of his $5 registration fee and removal of his personal information from the agency’s database.

“Thus, the injury he now claims feels manufactured,” the court said.
