Lee Enterprises Hit With New Suit Over Employee Data Breach

Lee Enterprises Inc. is facing a new lawsuit alleging it failed to protect employees’ personal information from a data breach that occurred on or around Feb. 1.

Former employee Sarah Fetes alleges that Lee Enterprises failed to adequately safeguard the names and Social Security numbers of current and former employees. Hackers were able to access and steal this unencrypted personal data due to Lee Enterprises’ negligent cybersecurity practices, she says.

The data breach was publicly disclosed around June 3, according to the suit docketed June 12 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
