Intercontinental Hotels Data Breach Class Deal Gets Early Nod

Intercontinental Hotels Group PLC and a class of consumers won a Georgia federal judge’s early approved of a data breach-related settlement under which the company would pay up to $1.5 million in credit card fraud reimbursements.

U.S. residents who used their credit or debit cards at Intercontinental locations sued the hotel chain in 2017 after the company announced security breaches at about 1,000 properties, leading to unauthorized charges on guests’ cards.

Intercontinental failed to safeguard customers’ personal financial data from hackers, the complaint alleged, including cardholder names, card numbers, expiration dates and internal verification codes.
