Groupon Photo Use Class Action Stays Federal

Groupon Inc. didn’t wait too long to move a class action out of state court, a federal court ruled Dec. 4.

Groupon moved the suit as soon as it became clear from the plaintiffs’ amended motion for class certification that the federal court had jurisdiction, Judge Ronald A. Guzmán wrote for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Christine Dancel sued Groupon in state court on behalf of Illinois residents whose Instagram images were used by Groupon without their consent.
