Google Chrome Data Privacy Suit Can’t Proceed as Class Action

Users of Google Chrome failed in their bid for class certification in a suit challenging the browser’s data collection after a federal judge denied their motion without leave to amend.

The search and advertising giant was correct that the extent to which individual Chrome users understood or consented to its data collection practices would render class certification inappropriate, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said Monday for the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

And the plaintiffs failed to identify a promise Google is currently making that would warrant an injunction, Rogers said.
