SAN FRANCISCO—A federal judge certified May 13 a class of 1 million Chase Bank credit card holders who allege the bank changed the terms so the interest rate was no longer for the life of the loan (In re: Chase Bank U.S.A. N.A. Check Loan Litigation).
U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney found that plaintiffs demonstrated common issues predominate over any individual issues that are best resolved through a single class action. Chase argued it offered many different promotions over a long period of time, requiring account-by-account analysis.
