Facebook Wins Claim Dismissal in Call Log Data Scraping Case

Privacy claims in a data scraping lawsuit against Facebook Inc. were dismissed after a California federal judge found the law in question pertained to content, not metadata.

The proposed class action against Facebook alleges surreptitious collection of users’ call and text log metadata, but that sort of information is not covered by the California Invasion of Privacy Act so that claim is dismissed, Chief District Judge Richard Seeborg wrote in an order filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Attorneys representing the Facebook users didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
