Facebook Data Breach Class Settlement Expected to Get First OK

Facebook Inc. and its users could soon see early approval of a settlement that mandates security upgrades to resolve a class action that accused the company of negligently allowing hackers to obtain user information via software bugs, according to a California federal judge’s remarks on Tuesday.

Facebook and plaintiff Stephen Adkins filed a motion for preliminary approval in February, calling on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to sign off on a deal under which Facebook agreed to implement and maintain “a detailed set of security commitments.”
