Express Scripts, Cigna Sued Over IT Employee Misclassification

Express Scripts Holding Co., Cigna Corp., and several IT staffing companies were hit with a lawsuit alleging they misclassified workers as independent contractors and denied them overtime pay and employee benefits.

Mohamed ElSalmi, who worked as a database administrator for Express Scripts and Cigna from 2020 to 2023, filed his proposed class and collective action in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York Tuesday. He says he was improperly classified as an independent contractor rather than an employee.
