Experian Agrees to Pay $8M to Settle Claims Of Unlawfully Furnishing Credit Reports

Credit reporting agency Experian Information Solutions Inc. has agreed to pay $8 million to settle claims it violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act by furnishing consumer reports without a permissible purpose, according to a federal district court order preliminarily approving the class action settlement (Holman v. Experian Info. Solutions, Inc., N.D. Cal., 4:11-cv-00180-CW, 4/29/14).

The April 29proposed no fault settlement agreement “falls within the range that is ‘fair, reasonable and adequate’ ” under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 23(e), Judge Claudia Wilken of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California said.
