Equinox Trainers Win Class Certification in Wage and Hour Suit

Equinox Holdings Inc. will face certified class claims by fitness instructors, personal trainers and Pilates instructors who allege the health club operator violated several provisions of California labor law.

The plaintiffs have established commonality because the questions underlying the multiple claims and three proposed classes “essentially boil down to” whether Equinox had a policy or consistent practice of requiring employees to work off the clock, of failing to provide or properly pay for meal and rest breaks, or of issuing unlawful wage statements, the US District Court for the Northern District of California said Tuesday.
