Data Company Hit With Class Claims for Security Breach

A major marketing and data aggregation company faces consumer class claims for exposing the data of about 230 million people and 110 million businesses, according to a complaint obtained by Bloomberg Law.

Exactis LLC, which holds more than 3.5 billion records of businesses and consumers, lacked data security protocols to protect “highly sensitive information,” plaintiff Kenneth Heretick alleged in a June 29 complaint.

The litigation highlights the risks to data collection companies that fall victim to a data breach. The plaintiff’s bar is likely to launch consumer class actions following massive data security violations, hitting companies’ bottom lines and reputations. ...
