Costco, Duracell Settle Faulty Flashlight Suit For $2.2 Million

Costco Corp., The Duracell Co., and two other companies will pay $2.2 million to end a consumer class action alleging they made and sold LED flashlights that lost battery power within 30 days despite being switched off.

The proposed class includes more than 192,000 Costco customers who bought Duracell-branded LED flashlights, except those who already received replacements, according to Thursday’s joint motion for preliminary settlement approval.

The customers, who paid around $16 for the flashlights, would receive between $6 and $8 for each package they bought under the deal’s terms.
