Saint Xavier University’s failure to implement reasonable data security led to a 2023 breach exposing the data of more than 212,000 people, a proposed class action said.
The Chicago-based university didn’t properly monitor its computer systems that housed sensitive data, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. It accuses Saint Xavier of invasion of privacy, negligence, unjust enrichment, and breach of implied contract.
An unauthorized criminal actor gained access to the university’s systems between June 29 and July 18, 2023, the complaint said.
