CenturyLink Execs Hurt Company With Overbilling Scheme: Suit (1)

CenturyLink Inc. executives were part of an illegal scheme to overbill as many as 3.5 million of the telecommunication firm’s customers, according to a Dec. 26 shareholder derivative suit.

The company’s directors and executives “condoned and encouraged” the scheme, which CenutryLink depended on to meet its financial projections, according to the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

A purported whistleblower raised internal questions in October 2016 about customers being billed for accounts they never created and services they never ordered, the complaint said. CenturyLink fired her shortly after, according to the complaint.
