Capitol Records LLC won $499 in damages in a counterclaim against rock singer Syd Straw, who is part of a proposed class action lawsuit claiming Capitol and UMG Recordings Inc. failed to return song copyright ownership back to more than 220 musicians.
Straw has sold her 1989 album “Surprise” on her personal website even though Capitol maintains ownership of the copyright until at least 2024, the date under US law when Straw can terminate the rights she handed over to the label.
