Securus Technologies Inc. will continue to face certified class claims that its prison phone systems illegally recorded calls between California detainees and their attorneys.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit denied Feb. 26 the company’s request for review of the lower court’s class certification order.
The plaintiffs say they have identified at least 220 attorney and 930 detainee class members. They seek statutory damages of $5,000 per violation under the California Invasion of Privacy Act.
