Apple Says It’s Shielded From Video Game Loot Box Suit

Apple Inc. shouldn’t have to face a lawsuit over loot boxes in a video game downloaded from its App Store because it didn’t create the game or its challenged features, it told a California federal court.

The company is protected by the Communications Decency Act, and loot boxes don’t constitute unlawful gambling under California law, Apple said in a filing Monday to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
