American Bar Association Beats Class Suit Over 2023 Data Breach

The American Bar Association on Tuesday defeated a proposed class action alleging it failed to protect the personal information of 1.5 million people that was disclosed in a March 2023 data breach.

Plaintiffs Tiffany Troy and Eric J. Mata failed to identify reasonable security measures that the ABA failed to implement to protect their data, Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis of the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York said.

Garaufis granted the ABA’s motion to dismiss, but gave the plaintiffs leave to file an amended complaint.
