Acre Must Face Class Claims in Loan Settlement Kickback Suit

Another class action may proceed against a lender—this time, Acre Mortgage & Financial Inc. —alleged to have taken kickbacks from now defunct Genuine Title in exchange for referrals for loan settlement services in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, according to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher’s Tuesday order certified a class of individuals who were referred by Acre to Genuine Title between 2009 and 2014, when the scheme was alleged to have been ongoing.
