23andMe’s bankruptcy estate is objecting to more than 160,000 “potentially fraudulent” claims seeking compensation from the DNA testing firm over a 2023 data breach that exposed private customer data.
The company, now called Chrome Holding Co. after selling its assets in Chapter 11, said in a filing Thursday with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri that it recently discovered that “one or more unidentified individuals has likely engaged in a concerted effort to file hundreds of thousands of potentially fraudulent claims.”
