UConn Women’s Basketball Team Fuels Windfall for School Finances

March 13, 2026, 5:10 PM UTC

The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team is a powerhouse for both March Madness tournaments and the school athletic department’s bottom line.

As the Huskies prepare to defend their 2025 championship and pursue a 13th national trophy, newly released bond documents show that the team’s season last year brought in enough cash to help offset a dip in athletic revenues.

UConn’s 2025 women’s season generated about $8.5 million of total operating revenue, a 7% increase from 2024 and nearly double 2023 levels, according to data from the Knight-Newhouse College Athletics Database at Syracuse University.
