UBS Asset Went Big on Tax-Minimizing Trades During Meltdown

When the stock market started convulsing in early April, Mark Price saw a trading opportunity that could slash clients’ tax bills, but he knew he had to act fast.

The UBS Asset Managementveteran was one of a team of five that spent the weekend prepping a series of orders using a strategy known as tax-loss harvesting. Starting from April 2 — a one-week stretch that saw the S&P 500 Index plunge 12% — Price said his team was able to use the financial maneuver across 90% of their so-called tax managed accounts.
