SEC’s Hack Disclosure Rules A Republican Target: Cyber Bulletin

If Republicans have their way, US rules that force companies to quickly disclose data breaches will be toast under the Trump administration.

Securities and Exchange Commission regulations, which came into effect in December 2023, require public companies to disclose any “material” cybersecurity incident to the agency within four business days.

The change accelerated revelations about some of the cyber issues at major firms.

Last February, Prudential Financial told the SEC that an intruder had “gained unauthorized access” to its systems. Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and Advanced Auto Parts Inc. disclosed they’d been affected by security incidents that investigators later tiedto Snowflake Inc.
