Maryland’s Moore Pitches $70.8 Billion Budget After Federal Cuts

Maryland Governor Wes Moore proposed a $70.8 billion budget without new taxes or fees for the fiscal year beginning in July, pitching the plan as a way to stabilize the state’s economy after a turbulent year of federal funding cuts and job losses.

The plan unveiled Wednesday eliminates a projected $1.5 billion cash shortfall through nearly $900 million in cost-saving measures and trims government operating expenses by $154 million. It leaves $142 million in reserves, while overall spending is set to rise by less than 1%.
