Greece Faces Investor Fight Over Buyback of Debt Crisis Warrants

More than a decade after the sovereign debt crisis, Greece is once again at loggerheads with investors. This time the dispute is around a buy back rather than an inability to pay.

The Wilmington Trust, which acts as trustee for Greece’s GDP warrants, is demanding compensation from the government over its decision to buy back the securities earlier this year. The Trust is disputing the validity of a call option exercised in May that could save Greece hundreds of millions of euros, legal filings in business and property courts of England and Wales show.
