Bessent Signals Commitment to ‘Gradual’ Changes in Debt Issuance

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, in keeping with past practice, said his department is prepared to alter the types of US Treasury securities it sells in response to evolving patterns of investor demand, though any changes will be gradual in order to prevent roiling markets.

“We will remain analytical in our decision-making, adjusting issuance gradually to avoid market disruptions,” Bessent said in remarks Wednesday to a Federal Reserve Bank of New York conference. “We will provide public forward guidance to the extent practicable and we will regularly canvass the market for feedback on how our issuance decisions are being received.” ...
