Weed Sales Hit N.J. as More States Weigh Legal, Taxed Marijuana

Cannabis sales and recreational use are expanding across the mid-Atlantic with adult-use sales beginning Thursday in New Jersey, and Maryland voters this fall deciding whether to legalize adult use.

State legislatures are adjourning for the year as legalization bills advance and backers press ballot measures in at least six states to permit those over age 21 to legally buy weed. The push comes as last year’s cannabis sales gave states a $3.7 billion tax boost, the Marijuana Policy Project said.
