Oklahoma Voters Reject Recreational Marijuana Initiative

Oklahoma voters on Tuesday rejected an initiative to legalize cannabis for those 21 years and older.

The measure (State Question 820), which would have included a 15% excise tax, was the only statewide issue on the special election ballot.

Under Oklahoma law, proponents of rejected citizen initiatives cannot revive the measures for at least three years and must qualify with signatures from 25% — over 500,000 — of registered voters.

Currently, 21 states and the District of Columbia allow adults to use marijuana: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, ...
