Lesotho is First African Grower to Export Medical Cannabis to EU

A Lesotho company has received clearance to become the first African grower to export medical cannabis to the EU.

MG Health plans to start shipping the cannabis from June after a request for import was made by Drapalin Pharmaceuticals in Germany, Chief Executive Officer Andre Bothma told reporters in Maseru, Lesotho’s capital.

The tiny, mountainous country encircled by South Africa has encouraged the production of medical-grade cannabis to boost its economy, one of the poorest in Africa. Its abundant water and fertile soil provide ideal conditions for the crop.
