Whitmer Won’t ‘Rule Out’ 2028 Democratic Presidential Bid

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said she won’t close the door on a 2028 Democratic presidential bid, leaving her options open for what could be a crowded and contentious primary race.

Whitmer — who is halfway through her second term and cannot run again due to term limits — said for now she is focused on her work as governor and helping Democrats in the 2026 midterm elections.

“I can’t rule anything out at this juncture,” she said Wednesday at the Commonwealth Club of California in San Francisco. “You’ve got a great bench of talented people in this country right now. ...
