UC Berkeley Faces Federal Probe After Turning Point Protest

A protest of a Turning Point USA event on the University of California at Berkeley campus has triggered a federal investigation into whether the school failed to meet its legal obligation to maintain campus safety, escalating the Trump administration’s battle with the UC system.

The US Department of Education said Tuesday that its Federal Student Aid office launched a review to determine if Berkeley didn’t accurately report crime statistics or maintain required safety protocols under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, which colleges must follow to receive federal student aid.
