San Francisco Sanctuary Case Leans on Precedent

Officials in San Francisco and the county of Santa Clara sued the administration of President Donald Trump (R) over threats to cut off federal funds to sanctuary cities for the second time last week, with Ninth Circuit precedent their side, Maia Spoto reports.

San Francisco has at least $8.7 million in Justice Department-administered funds for its 2024-2025 fiscal year; Santa Clara gets between $6 million and $7 million in grants originating with DOJ. That funding pays for victim services, substance abuse treatment, and youth support, according to the complaint.
