Pacific HealthWorks Sued Over Data Taken in August Cyberattack

A California woman sued health care companies Pacific HealthWorks LLC and La Perouse LLC in federal court for their failure to properly safeguard protected health information and personally identifiable information in an August cyberattack.

Plaintiff Jill Cohen says the companies failed to protect the data from “ransomwware gang Everest,” and that about 5,000 people viewed samples of the data it provided. The leaked data allegedly included names, Social Security numbers, medical records, insurance information, and other sensitive details. Records of over 1.4 million patients were taken, she says.
