Oakland Airport Vies for San Francisco Name: California Brief

What’s in a name? The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will consider that question Monday for “San Francisco.”

Oakland will ask the appeals panel to allow it to use “San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport” as its rebranded name for its facility. They’ll argue a lower court inappropriately temporarily blocked the East Bay city and its port from using that name.

At issue is whether Oakland’s new name falsely implies affiliation with and irreparably harms “San Francisco International Airport,” a separate facility run by the city and county of San Francisco and based in nearby San Mateo ...
