His state-run program to provide low-cost insulin? Late and without promised California-based manufacturing of the medicine. His goal to build 3.5 million homes by 2025? Missed. And the state’s new high-speed rail system? Delayed.
Newsom is hardly the first politician to make overly ambitious campaign promises or scale back a flashy program when funding runs dry. But with a potential presidential bid in his future, these misses could become liabilities. It also puts pressure on him to make 2026 count.
