Meet the New Solicitor General

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced this week that Samuel Harbourt will soon lead the state’s Office of the Solicitor General.

Harbourt, who is the second openly gay person to hold this role, has spent years following his passion in public interest law. He’s clerked for US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, contributed to briefs for landmark cases like Obergefell v. Hodges that established a constitutional right to gay marriage, and argued before the state and nation’s highest courts.
