Using AI to generate a person’s voice or likeness without consent for commercial purposes would result in criminal and civil penalties under a bill slated for its first legislative hearing today, Titus Wu reports.
AI businesses would have to take steps to ward off impersonations, such as by providing warnings to would-be users over how misuse of their products can result in legal liability. The bill also would ask the Judicial Council to draft rules on how courts take in AI-manipulated evidence.
