LA City Utility to Appeal Fire Ruling, Cites Credit Downgrade

The city of Los Angeles water and power utility vowed to appeal a ruling allowing it to be sued over its allegedly botched response to the massive 2025 wildfire that destroyed thousands of homes in one of LA’s premier oceanfront neighborhoods.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said in a court filing it will seek to overturn a judge’s finding that a unique California law empowers Pacific Palisades property owners to proceed with claims that the utility failed to supply sufficient water to fight the blaze, which caused tens of billions of dollars in damage.
