Uber Owes $8.5M in Arizona Rape Trial

An Arizona federal jury found Uber liable of failing to prevent one of its drivers from allegedly sexually assaulting a passenger, the first such verdict against the company.

The decision will cost the ride sharing giant $8.5 million, while increasing the company’s risk of costly settlements to resolve thousands of similar cases. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates Uber could pay more than $500 million if juries continue to find for passengers.
