American Honda Motor Co. Inc. will pay $632,500 and make changes to its consumer privacy practices, under the California Privacy Protection Agency’s first public enforcement action of the state’s comprehensive privacy law.
The settlement by the nation’s only privacy agency, announced Wednesday, is part of its connected cars investigation launched when it gained enforcement powers in 2023.
The federal government and other states such as Texas also launched probes into the industry practice where vehicles collect personal data, including driving habits, and share the information with third parties like insurance providers.
