Florida GOP May Redraw Congressional Map as National Fight Grows

Florida lawmakers are exploring whether to redraw the state’s congressional map, joining a national push in GOP-led states to add seats that could help President Donald Trump’s party keep control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.

Daniel Perez, speaker of Florida’s House of Representatives, sent a memo to lawmakers on Thursday laying out a congressional redistricting plan, starting with the creation of a new committee on redistricting. The state’s 28 congressional districts are currently split 20-8 in favor of Republicans.
