A state senator is calling on fellow California lawmakers to craft AI legislation that can withstand congressional attempts to preempt state laws, Titus Wu reports.
While the US Senate failed July 1 to attach a five-year state ban as part of President Donald Trump’s major tax-and-spending bill, proponents backed by big tech companies will certainly try again to pass the federal measure, state Sen. Jerry McNerney (D) said Tuesday.
“It could come back in different forms,” McNerney said at conference sponsored by Capitol Weekly. If “the president wants something, he can get this Congress to do it.”
