Few states in the country have felt the economic pain of President Donald Trump’s tariffs quite like California. It’s the US’ top importer and second largest exporter.
That’s why state Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) say they are battling Trump’s efforts to overhaul global trade in federal court. The tariff policies are projected to cut California’s revenue by $16 billion in the next fiscal year and cost California consumers $25 billion, the governor’s office has said.
