High Fines to Follow Data Deletion System

Data brokers who fail to register in California could face some of the largest-ever privacy penalties in the US after the state launches its first-in-the-nation, single-form data deletion system on Jan. 1, Titus Wu reports.

A newly created data broker strike force will enforce those fines — potentially in the billions of dollars — and expects businesses to know if the law applies to them, CalPrivacy Executive Director Tom Kemp told Bloomberg Government.
