Becerra Advances in California’s $300 Million Governor Race (1)

Xavier Becerra, a former congressman and US health secretary in the Biden administration, is projected to advance in the California governor’s race, one of the most expensive state elections in US history.

Becerra had 26% of the vote with about 60% of the estimated votes counted as of Thursday night, according to Decision Desk HQ, which projected he would advance. If elected, Becerra, 68, the son of Mexican immigrants, would be California’s first Latino governor since the late 1800s.
